Having joined Ok Tedi Mining as a trainee in 2003, Maino was to become the first Papua New Guinean to be appointed to a senior operations role at the mine in PNG’s Western Province before starting his own business.
He started Kayop Investments Limited PNG in 2020, commencing with a humble contract to supply a light vehicle to the mine for six months.
In 2023, the company established an Australian subsidiary, Kayop Australia Pty Ltd, to expand internationally.
Today, his business has expanded its service offerings from excavator hire, to operations, drainage works, and light vehicle hire and the Kayop Group employs around 600 staff.
Maino is also Chairman of non-profit Star Mountain Education Foundation PNG and Deputy Chair of the OK Tedi Landowners Royalty Investment Trust and diversified services company, Millum Services Limited.
