Prime Minister Mataʻafa came to power in Samoa this year, becoming Samoa’s first female Prime Minister. She is one of Samoa’s longest-serving members of Parliament and has held numerous ministerial portfolios during her career, including Minister of Education, Minister of Women, Community & Social Development, Minister of Justice and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. She also has represented Samoa on the executive board of UNESCO and served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the University of the South Pacific from 2006 to 2012.
